A simple, free Mint alternative, now that Mint is gone
Intuit shut Mint down in 2024 and pointed its users to Credit Karma, which isn’t a budgeting app. Kasa is a simple, free replacement for what most people used Mint for: seeing spending by month and category, keeping an eye on bills, and following net worth and loans. Unlike Mint it has no ads and no bank connection: you add spending yourself in seconds, and monthly bills post themselves.
| Price | Free: no ads, no paid plan |
|---|---|
| Getting started | An email; set today’s balances and monthly bills |
| Bank connection | None, by design |
| Spending by month and category | Yes |
| Recurring bills | Post themselves each month; still-to-pay shows what’s coming |
| Net worth | Yes, including loans, bitcoin and gold |
| Currencies | 31 currencies, bitcoin and gold |
What Mint users will find
- A monthly dashboard with spent, earned and what’s still to pay.
- Spending per month and per category; click a bar or a category to dig in.
- Net worth across cash, savings, investments, property and debts.
- Loans with payment plans that show what’s paid, what’s left and the last payment date.
What’s different from Mint
- No ads or offers. Mint was paid for by credit card and loan offers. Kasa has none, and is supported by donations.
- No bank sync. Bank connections can break or need re-linking. Kasa has none: you add entries, and can import a card statement CSV into a bill to split it into purchases.
- No budget limits yet. Mint had per-category budgets; Kasa doesn’t yet. If that matters most, look at the comparison.
Questions
Is Mint still available?
No. Intuit closed Mint in 2024 and moved users to Credit Karma.
Can I import my Mint history into Kasa?
Not yet. Set each account’s real balance today and Kasa counts from there, so balances are right without the history.
What is the best free Mint replacement?
It depends on what you used Mint for. For a simple view of spending, bills, loans and net worth without ads or bank sync, Kasa is free. For automatic bank imports, paid apps like Monarch Money or YNAB are the usual picks.
